The Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia (NSW) are very pleased to present our annual online Professional Development Program (PD) for 2022. The online conference will take place Tuesday 19th April – Sunday 24th April. This is the third year of holding our Professional Development program online due to the continuing uncertainty of COVID-19. Previously the PD took place preceding Summer School or Autumn Festival. In Sydney we have been so lucky to have many visiting international guest faculty over the years, especially from Japan and that has greatly shaped Suzuki Method in Australia.
This year is no exception and perhaps our local PD is becoming even more international than ever before, due to being held online. The online PD conference has been organised by our Teacher Trainers Committee chaired by Zohara Rotem with a lot of work by our office manager Tina O’Hagan to put together the program. Most sessions will be live streamed via Zoom and have been scheduled to accommodate tutors in various international time zones. Replays of all live streamed sessions will be available to watch 24 hours later.
This year there is inspiring sessions for teachers in the violin department by Brian Lewis (USA) and Koen Rens (Belgium), for the piano department by Misako Akiba (Japan), Kasia Borowiak (UK) and Rae De Lisle (NZ), in the cello department Akira Nakajima (Japan), the viola department by Joanne Martin (USA), flute department Rebecca Paluzzi (USA), Recorder department, Kathleen Schoen (Canada), Guitar department MaryLou Roberts (USA) and Suzuki Early Childhood Education sessions by Lucy Adeney (Australia).
General philosophy and methodology lectures for all instruments will also be given by Zohara Rotem (Australia), Koen Rens (Belgium), MaryLou Roberts (USA), Brian Lewis (USA) and Kasia Borowok (UK).

We are also very privileged to have a keynote lecture by Dr Takeaki Miyamae who will be presenting the findings of recent research conducted by Talent Education Research Institute in collaboration with the University of Tokyo titled “Music-Experience-Related and Musical-Error-Dependent Activations in the Brain,” published in Cerebral Cortex: December 23, 2021.
Suzuki teachers in New South Wales are required to complete a minimum of ten hours PD every year to maintain their Suzuki accreditation. But as Suzuki teachers we know that PD is not only a requirement, it is an imperative and precious time to come together and research how we can better nurture the ability of children, for the sake of their happiness. The program is aimed at our New South Wales teachers, however, is open to any Suzuki teacher who would like to attend. You can find more information about registration and schedule here:
It is always a privilege for us to learn from teachers who studied with and taught alongside Dr Suzuki. Our teachers in New South Wales are very much looking forward to listening to the lectures by Dr Takeaki Miyamae, Mr Akira Nakajima and Mrs Misako Akiba and learning from their deep experience and knowledge.
